  • Simufact Welding is used to simulate thermal joining processes such as arc welding, laser beam welding, electron beam welding, brazing, resistance spot, additive manufacturing process laser deposition welding (LMD or DED) and others.

Without welding simulation, engineers resort to physical experimental trial-and-error to develop the best weld plan. Unfortunately, since physical prototypes can cost up to millions of dollars and with the need to consider dozens or hundreds of welds, engineers are limited to a small number of physical prototypes. The best weld process is likely to be missed.

One of Simufact Welding’s primary capabilities is its ability to accurately simulate the thermal distortions and residual stresses stemming from the welding process. With such insight, engineers are able to craft zero cost virtual prototypes and optimize the weld sequence and parameters, such as the location or number of clamps.

What is new in Simufact Welding 2022?

The latest release of Simufact Welding features 2 new capabilities that helps users to perform welding simulations faster than before.

    • 30x Faster Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) Simulation – A new and purely mechanical solution called Simplified Spot has been implemented and is for use with 2D elements. The Simplified Spot option makes RSW simulations up to 30x faster. To use this newest capability in the application, select the 4th option available in the application. Below is the current list of available options.
      • Temperature field and distortions are required:
        1. Full transient simulation
        2. Thermal cycle mode
      • Only the distortions are required:
    1. Electrodes mode
    2. New Simplified Spot mode

    • Restart of Previous Welding Simulations – Welding simulations sometimes stop prematurely for multiple reasons. For example, if the PC hast lost network connection or the PC has gone into energy-saving mode, this can cause the license to be lost and prematurely stop the welding simulation. If a welding simulation prematurely stopped, users needed to restart the simulation from the very beginning. If a simulation spanned hours, recovering from a prematurely closed simulation was very costly. A new restart capability has been added in this release. Users are now able to continue the simulation from where they last left off. To access this new capability in the application, locate the simulation that stopped, right-click the simulation and click Resume to continue the simulation.
