JW Winco expands its indexing plungers’ range while adding new technical functionality. The latest addition, type GN 817.7, is pneumatically actuated and can be integrated seamlessly into automated processes thanks to state-of-the-art sensors.

JW Winco offers a wide assortment of indexing plungers with various features. Their development team consistently succeeds at integrating new functionality that provides new application possibilities.

The most recent indexing plunger development is pneumatically actuated. In addition, the part also detects both end positions with just a single sensor. This makes the GN 817.7 a logical advancement over the manually operated indexing plunger GN 817.6. The GN 817.7 can replace the GN 817.6 without changing dimensions or signal processing. The new plunger can also be used in hard-to-reach locations and integrates into automated processes.

The position detection of GN 817.7 is proven magnet technology with added innovation. Not only are both end positions now detectable, but they can also be individually defined. Perform the sensor teaching directly on-site with a small operating element on the sensor, held in place by a clip and supported by a cable. There are even LEDs for visual feedback. The other option for teaching is to use the convenient IO-Link feature via the system control unit. This standardized interface makes teaching easy and allows immediate replacement in the case of faults, significantly reducing downtime.

The high signals upon reaching the respective end positions are transmitted directly over the 4-pin M8 cable plug to the control unit of the system.

The GN 817.7 is made of robust stainless steel and is available in four plunger diameters and three functional variants. Type D is double-acting, meaning the plunger is pneumatically retracted and extended. Types A and E are single-acting, meaning the pneumatic actuation retracts the plunger in the case of type A and extends it in the case of type E. Note: The spring-loaded plunger always returns independently to its initial position if air pressure is lost.

The indexing plunger operates with pressures between 4 and 6 bar, while the IP 67-compliant sensor emits DC signals between 12 and 30 volts.

  • Long-Running Precision

If precise, quiet and dynamic linear movements are required, linear guide rail systems are indispensable. For special applications, JW Winco has now produced its modular system in stainless steel.

Even if they might appear so at first glance, not all linear guide rail systems are the same. The differences reveal themselves upon a closer look and tend to lie in fundamental aspects rather than mere details. This is why Winco offers a number of different models and versions.

The most recent addition is the stainless steel version in the two most important guide rail heights of 1.18 in (30 mm) and 1.77 in (45 mm). These guide rails are assembled from precisely matched components: linear guide rails GN 2492, the matching cam roller carriages GN 2494 and the separately available wipers of TPU plus the individual rollers with three different bore types. The exceptionally stable guide rails are produced in a rolling process and can be mounted using the typical bore pattern, even up to a rail length of 97.64 in (2480 mm). The compact cam roller carriages run securely within the C-shaped rail, and the vertical play can be adjusted on the middle roller – a typical Winco feature. The ball bearings of the rollers are sealed, lubricated for life and FDA-compliant (as indicated by the blue seals). As a result, these linear guide rail systems can be used in corrosive environments as well as areas with strict hygiene requirements.

The linear guide rail systems of the GN 2422 series can be assembled just as individually. In this case, the C-shaped guide rails GN 2422 are available in four heights and are made of nonwarping zinc-plated, hardened and ground steel. The matching cam roller carriages GN 2424 come in three versions, each with adjustable middle roller. All rollers and the wiper can also be purchased individually. When mounted to the cam roller carriages, the wipers remove dirt from the guide rails during every movement to ensure smooth travel at all times.

Alongside these linear guide rail systems designed for extreme demands, Winco also carries simpler variations in its product range, which are quite sufficient for standard applications. GN 1490 is offered in two heights as a complete set including rail and carriage – in zinc-plated steel or stainless steel. Thanks to slightly over dimensioned rollers, the carriages run quietly and precisely within the C-profiles with zero backlash. The lifetime lubrication and dust proof sealing of the bearing also make valuable contributions here.

With these three models, Winco offers ideal solutions for all quality requirements and price points.

  • Couplings from JW Winco: Precise and reliable

    Couplings from JW Winco

Couplings from JW Winco transmit rotary motions and torques from shaft to shaft. They also even out tolerances and mechanical deflection that would otherwise result in damage to drive or measurement configurations. Winco’s portfolio includes the perfect coupling solution for practically every situation.

Like all mechanical parts, shafts are subject to manufacturing and assembly tolerances that generally cannot be entirely eliminated even with extensive technical measures. Without compensation of these mechanical deviations, they can cause vibrations, noises, and stiffness, eventually reducing the lifespan of the connected units.

The standard part professionals at Winco tackled precisely these problems. The result is couplings that can be used for torque and power transmission as well as position and motion control. In other words, the right coupling type is available for every application.

Despite the wide variety, finding the right design is easy. A type overview highlights the most important features of every coupling at a glance, while the proven standard sheets document the details of the individual coupling standards. Further technical information on installation and use as well as speeds, temperatures, torsional stiffness, moment of inertia, etc. are summarized in the coupling’s brochure – available as a PDF download.

The recently added couplings of aluminum and stainless steel include designs for positive and non-positive connections. Multiple bore diameters, various, stiffness and hardness levels of the coupling body as well as an optional keyway allow very specific customization to the given use case. In general, all couplings compensate for offsets and misalignments, accommodate runout error and axial motion, and dampen vibrations and impacts to varying degrees.

At the application level, there is a choice between position and motion control or torque and power transmission.

For position and motion control, the rotary motion must be transmitted with very high precision and accuracy. This requires a coupling type that functions with zero backlash in the direction of rotation and has high torsional stiffness. Typical applications include: Servo and stepper motors for linear axes, industrial robots and test benches.

For torque and power transmission, on the other hand, the focus is on pure force transmission. This calls for couplings that can withstand high torques and heavy loads while functioning reliably in harsh conditions. Typical applications include: Conveyor systems, pumps and agitators, packaging machines.
